Acer liquidmini Hands-on

There is little doubt that Acer is trying to make a statement of intent with its smartphone offerings, and that's why we didn't pass on the opportunity to be introduced to the Acer Liquid Metal's little brother - the Acer liquidmini.The Acer liquidmini is very similar in appearance and feel to the Liquid Metal, hence it retains the same good design with its beautifully curved top and bottom sides, which is definitely one of its strong sides.Somehow unsurprisingly for a mid-end handset, the liquidmini offers a 3.2-inch TFT capacitive screen with 320 x 480 resolution and only 262 144 colors, so there is no point to expect too much from its display.

It runs the same 600MHz Qualcomm 7227 processor that powers the Acer beTouch E140, and also has the same amount of RAM and ROM - 256MB and 512MB, respectively. The camera offers 5MP and features auto focus.The Acer liquidmini is powered by Android 2.2, but comes with the unorthodox Acer UI, called Breeze, that we extensively reviewed here. There is no point to dwell on Breeze UI, but if you want to differentiate from the stock Android experience, this is a good option. The liquidmini also comes with some trademark Acer applications like Spinlets and urFooz.


Our first impressions are that this phone is shaping as a good option for those of you who are in the market for an affordable, good-looking handset. These are our first impressions, though, and they are bound to change, so stay tuned for more.

The Acer liquidmini is set for an April 2011 release in the UK, but its US launch date is unavailable.
